Sundaise is all about having a great time but still being eco and having a small impact on the environment. Literally 1 day before the festival there were cows in a paddock, but with the help of heaps of volunteers the Sundaise festival came alive. Do you ever feel that sometimes in your life you have to make smart practical decisions? You sit down and look at all the options, then make a decision that best suits your practical needs. Screw that, sometimes I think that we need to live by what our heart or the seat of our pants tells us.

Smart decision: “I’m not going to get a credit card because I’m not sure I could trust myself paying back the money and I would spend it on stupid stuff anyway.”

Emotional decision: “My new jet ski is awesome. So glad I got this new credit card. Not 100% sure how I’m going to pay it off.”

I think you learn more from the emotional decisions than the practical ones. Somebody once said that;

“You learn more from failure, than you do from success”

While this may be true the key to that quote / sentence is learning. The ability to pick yourself up, dust off the ego and try again. Who cares that your new jet ski just got repo’d and your paying back your credit card. Think of everything you learned! You know not to mess with the repo guys, you know how to drive a jet ski and you know that whatever happens your still alive and life goes on.

What I’m trying to say in a very roundabout way is I think we need to make more emotional decisions in our lifes’. Obviously you need to balance the smart, practical decisions with the emotional ones but just remember nobody ever had any fun making practical decisions all their life.

Implementing Joomla, a content management system, I set up the style / template for the new website. My next job was to educate the staff on how to use the backend software. It was a slow start but they began picking it up, realizing the potential and power I had given them. No longer did the site have to be updated by nerds (like myself), but people who knew little to nothing about websites. Admin staff started uploading the latest newsletters, updating the events calendar, teachers and students began writing content about their subject areas. Even coaches and sports coordinators started uploading sports draws, events, and results.

Regularly checking in with the Waihi College website I can see how they are doing and the stats from Google Analytics‘ prove the success of the site. With all the hard work done we are now looking at multiple languages on the site for foreign visitors / international students. The opportunities are endless with Joomla.

My client wasn’t expecting the new design, but was inspired and decided to extend the project to incorporate the new bird. After some discussions on how best to use the new graphic we decided that the old logo needed to stay but to use the new bird in marketing and promotional material. We incorporated the new logo into the new business cards, and have begun talks about large scale formal banners to hang in the hall on special occasions. The principal also wanted some backgrounds and images for powerpoint or keynote presentations.

Peconic Dunes is an insane amount of fun. Too much fun some would say.

The powers at be dropped a microphone in my hand and tasked me to lay down tasty decrees and introductions throughout the battle. I had soon gained the necessary skills to organize the 2012 Battle. Managing the untamed masses of musical bands was a challenge, but with steel whips the event once again came together.

I had alot of fun MCing the 2011 and 2012 Battle of the Bands. Introducing some of the most outstanding raw musical talent New Zealand has to offer was defiantly a highlight. Standing up in front of 500 screaming fans and throwing down some tasty licks was an awesome experience.

The name Jungle Gym came from the premises itself. Unlike any gym i have ever been in, it is surrounded completely by plants. Making you feel like you are outside. It is a fantastic place to workout and Darren’s clientele have been increasing ever since he first opened his bamboo doors.
